After the NCAA Division II football championship game and the post-game news conferences, Adam Dorrel told a gathering of players, families and fans at Children’s Mercy Park on Saturday night that he accepted a head coaching offer at Abilene Christian University in Abilene, Texas. Knowing in advance of that possibility, Bearcats athletics director Mel Tjeerdsma had Dorrel’s successor picked. That night, the team was told that defensive coordinator Richard Wright would be the Bearcats new coach. He was formally introduced two days later on campus.
