Florida And LSU Seek Series Championship

By Greg Echlin
Though the University of Florida is in search of its first national title in baseball, the Gators are playing in the best-of-three title series at the College World Series for their third time.  Southeastern Conference foe LSU is no stranger to baseball championships as the NCAA’s team of the 90s.  The Tigers, however, are playing in their first title series since 2009.
All in all, these two teams wear familiar colors at the College World Series while the teams located closer to Omaha struggle to get that far.  Iowa and Nebraska made the 64-team bracket, but each failed to get past the first weekend.  The most notable natives of either Iowa or Nebraska are linked to other programs in the College World Series.

Baylor’s Wainwright Leaves Behind Embattled Raytown School District

Baylor forward Ish Wainwright is making the best of his senior year with a Sweet 16 appearance, the first since his freshman season with the Bears in 2014. He helped his team with two important free throws to secure the lead against USC with 16 seconds left. Wainwright played two seasons at Montrose Christian Academy (Md.) after two seasons in the beleaguered Raytown South (Mo.) program where he caught the attention of Kansas coach Bill Self.  While at Raytown South, Wainwright played under coach Brad Oestreich, who is suing the Raytown School District for wrongful termination and discrimination.  Oestreich said he had nothing but good memories of Wainwright in his two years at Raytown South.
